Even though it wasn’t an E46 M3-based race car, last weekend’s DTM race was a historic and satisfying one for BMW, as its new M3 DTM racers took two of the top three spots at the Lausitzring. Placing first and third, the BMW M3 DTM race cars from the BMW Bank and Castrol EDGE teams showed that even after a 20-year hiatus, BMW hasn’t forgotten its winning ways. In the first race of the season, the M3 DTM racers weren’t even in the top five. To come in first, third and seventh in only the second race of the season speaks of the terrific potential of these race cars and should make the competition sit up and take notice.
Adding to the satisfaction of the BMW teams was the fact that the win came on the heels of the BMW M division’s 40th anniversary, and the 41st win by a BMW M3 in the DTM. As owners of the E46 M3, we can only feel pride that the pedigree of the marque runs in the veins of our very special cars.
